New home of the Duncraft bird helps deter House Sparrows

Nothing is more discouraging for lovers of birds, especially blue Merle lovers, than having to repeatedly remove the nests of non-native sparrows their Bluebird nest boxes.  Now Duncraft introduced the new home of the bird which helps deter House Sparrows because of the shape of the nest box of opening Sparrow RESISTANT.

Non-native house sparrow are a serious threat to native birds, living in the cavity. They not only make valuable points of nesting, but are also aggressive and will attack the native birds and destroy the eggs and chicks to support a nesting area.  To maintain nest boxes for native birds, many methods were used to deter house sparrows.  Resistant Duncraft Sparrow House incorporates three advantages that can discourage these birds to occupy the House.

Researchers at the University of Kentucky found that the entrance slit holes that cover the front of a nesting area are very attractive for the bluebirds, while the sparrows tend to avoid. It is possible that sparrows them do not like because they let too much light.

In addition to the advantage of the entry slot opening, the Duncraft House is made of a high-impact plastic. According to the North American Bluebird Society, nest boxes made of similar materials also appear to deter house sparrows. These birds seem to prefer wooden houses. High impact and recycled plastics have the additional advantage of duration for the years with virtually no signs of wear.

Another advantage of the Duncraft house is that when the sparrows raid a nest, they often trap and kill a parent bird indoors and nestlings.  A wider entrance as the input slit on the House-Sparrow can prevent the sparrows to completely block the entrance hole, allowing the victim to escape.
